Return Books ...(now)

It's that time of the year!  I have the hardest time covering all the content in early American history and making it to  the Civil War.  So, we will be studying the Civil War for the rest of the year.  Students are working on creating a newspaper filled with Civil war information.  Each individual's article is due Tuesday, 5/19.  After the paper is made, we will read through parts of the text in class (for participation points) and watch Civil War video clips from various educational videos.  As we do this students will work in their Civil War Journal.  This is our final assignment, due 5/28

Chapter 8 Test Thursday 4/8

Students will take a "pre" test on ancient and medieval history 3/25.  This test will show in the gradebook.  It will be worth only a few points.  Students will then have study time in class to work on a study guide, work in review workbooks and hopefully show great improvement on the "post" test.  This test will be worth significantly more points.

6th and 7th Grade Review Study Guide

6th and 7th Grade History Test Monday; 4/19

I have postponed the "post-test" until after vacation to give students more time to prepare for this big test.  Students may work in their workbooks and complete the study guide to prepare for the test.  If a poor grade is earned on the test, I will look at the study guide to see if it is complete and a good effort was given.  So all students who may not do well on tests should be prepared to turn in a well-done study guide Monday 3/5!

Our next adventure in history involves preparing for STAR Testing.  This year, students will be tested on all history taught in elementary school.  Therefore, we will spend time reviewing ancient and medieval history and then review and cover American history.

Students have taken a "pre" test on ancient and medieval history.  This test will show in the gradebook.  It will be worth only 6 points.  Students will then have study time in class to work on a study guide, work in review workbooks and hopefully show great improvement on the "post" test.  This test will be worth 60 points!

Ancient and Medieval Post-Test Wednesday 2/24

We will follow a similar pattern to cover American history.  The pre-test will be Thursday 2/25.  Study Guide

The post test will be Monday 4/19.

It's all about History Fair in history class right now.  We have been in the computer lab every day, researching and creating annotated bibliographies.  Over the next two weeks, students will be directed and given some time to write their research paper and their process paper.  We will also have some time to work on exhibit backboards on Thursday 1/21 and Monday 1/25.  We have some backboards at school for sale for $5.00.

History Day in CA website has all the information about how to make your history fair exhibit, including how to write a process paper.  There are some differences between school requirements and History Day in California requirements.  If you hope to go on to county or even state level competition, be sure you follow the more stringent National History Day requirements.
